I ordered just the tool for myself Dyson Groom, for rottie/shepherd mix - sheds like crazy in spring. Worked so well, I ordered the kit (for the same price I paid for my tool) Dyson Groom Tool / Clean Up Kit for my daughter--she has 2 new babies and 2 constantly shedding retrievers. Love that I can groom inside the house now, without fur-balls or floating hair to clean up as they are all sucked into the vac. I use a shop vac rather than the Dyson (although the Dyson works great anytime except in the spring) because the amount of shed is just sooo.. much and I don't want any doggie smells in my fabulous and not-cheap Dyson Vac. Most house vacs have thearound a 1 1/4" diameter connection that it either slips inside of, or over the outside at the end of the flex line and will work as well. Some household Vacs with bags will fill too fast and bags can cost a lot, the bag-less ones are great, just empty a lot. Standard shop-vacs work best (I use a small/cheaper 5 gal one), as long as you use the smaller diameter hose (1 1/4" only) that has a short neck at the end where the Dyson grooming tool slides on the end of the flex line. The hoses with a long neck prior to the flex part where the tool slides on do not allow for the flex you need to bend the tool to conform to your dogs body as you vacuum (an inexpensive foam filter around the filter will help keep doggie dust/dander/+? from blowing back into the house, makes it lots easier to empty and clean and holds more hair than most standard house vacs.It didn't take long to get my dog used to the vacuum noise when I started at her itchy spot where her tail joins to her backbone on the top of her rear hips... lightly at first, after a bit, she just melted and enjoyed it, I think it might scratch some if it directly contacts her skin, the brush tips of the groomer seem very sharp so if your dog seems to cringe when you are digging out shed, pushing a little hard, or working on her pits or belly, it may be wise to lighten up a bit. Amazing results without much work or time and a hair-free house at last at the cost of a couple trips to the groomer!
