We purchased this fairly specialized vacuum to help control a bed bug problem in an apartment that we own. It has lots of suction and the HEPA filter is very secure! There are several useful nozzles as well. Anything that gets sucked up by this vacuum is staying inside the filter! There are even plugs included that allow you to guarantee that nothing escapes when the vacuum is not in use. If you don't need a the security and safety of the HEPA filter then an every day run of the mill shop vac would be a lot less expensive. However, I would highly recommend this vacuum for any application where a secure HEPA filter is needed.
