5.0 out of 5 starsSeems like it's Self Propelled, it's so PowerfulOctober 25, 2011

My husband and I work and live on a large dairy farm and we have 5 dogs (only one inside) and 5 house cats. So, our carpets and furniture take a beating with pet hair, dirt and hay. Our carpet is also an older style which seems to attract lint. I've went through quite a few cheaper vacuums such as an older Hoover (the only one besides this Oreck that is still going), a Bissell and a feather light Dirt Devil- just to name a few. This is my first Oreck. I ordered it mainly because of the 3 year limited warranty and the free one year tune-up that's included. Be sure you fill out the yellow warranty card and send it to Oreck after you get this vacuum, as without registering it, your warranty won't be valid.I'm very frugal and I hated to spend more than $80 on a vacuum of all things, but I'm glad I did. This Oreck is a nice vacuum. It just looks well made and it is. The power cord is very sturdy and thick, you'll notice a big difference between this Oreck's cord and other cheaper made in China units. I also think the styling of the vacuum is great. I love the bag containing compartment, it has a zipper all the way around it so no fighting trying to get the bag out.As soon as I started to run it, it took off across the carpet, it almost seemed like a self-propelled vacuum it ran so powerfully. The way it ran also reminded me of my grandmother's old Kirby vacuum that weighed a ton, was made of all metal and had a motor that took off across the carpet as soon as you hit that switch. Well, I'm sure it's not made that well (nothing is anymore), but, you get my drift... You can just tell that this vacuum is very well made by the power it has. It left my carpet looking great. It picked up 10x better than my last vacuum.I also loved the design of the handle. It goes nearly all the way down so you can vacuum under your bed, under dining chairs and most couches. It seems to be a much more ergonomic design than most vacuums I've used before. This vacuum is also pretty light at 12 pounds so it's light, yet cleans like a heavier machine. Also, when you set it up it stays up. It doesn't fall down like most other lighter vacuums. The only thing you will have to do before vacuuming when you receive this is putting the top part of the handle on. The screws are included & it took me less than 5 minutes and I am not mechanical in the least bit. All you will need is a Phillips head screwdriver and to read the instructions. It's very simple. All in all, so far I love this vacuum. A good selling point to me as well is that it's supposedly made in the USA. I will update if I ever have problems.
