3.0 out of 5 starsGood vacuum but overpricedSeptember 9, 2012

Despite the hype surrounding Oreck vacuum cleaners, this is a moderately performing lightweight that costs much more than it should. It's easy to use--the roller brush spins so fast that it almost feels like a self-propelled cleaner. It doesn't seem to have the deep-down cleaning capacity of some of the larger vacuums, but for everyday cleaning, it's fine. One concern I have is the way you take it from a locked upright position to an angled vacuum position. There is no release mechanism. You place your foot on the bottom of the vacuum and pull the handle until it snaps out of the locked position. You snap it back to go into the locked position. I'm wondering how many times I can do that before it gets loose and doesn't hold the locked position well. For about half the price, you can get the lightweight Hoover Platinum Bagged, one of Consumer Report's highest rated vacuums. It even comes with a handheld unit. It also has an auto cut-off if something gets stuck in the roller--I would have expected Oreck to included a similar feature in its top-of-the-line vacuum, but they don't. Take some time to do a little research before deciding which vacuum is right for you. This isn't a bad unit--I would be singing its praises if it were much less expensive, but at this cost, there are many better options.
